4 a.m. Wake Up Call!

 I woke up this morning at about 4 a.m. to beeping thinking “No way! It’s not already time to get up!” Then I realized it was coming from outside, so I silently grumbled at my truck driving neighbors for being incosiderate. There are not many things I get annoyed with more than people who interrupt my sleep in the middle of the night! After waking Austin up to help assess the situation (maybe it was just to complain) we finally settled back down to sleep.

Then an hour later, I woke up to the same noise! I was getting really mad this time. The baby woke up, so I went to get him a bottle and he fell right back asleep. I noticed there was a truck behind our house (I didn’t have my glasses on and all I could see what the bright lights shining through the window) and I also heard men talking. Now I’m thinking – okay WHAT IS GOING ON!?

Another wake up call for Austin (why is he sleeping through this?)! I looked out our bedroom window again to see a truck with “Provo” written on it and told Austin it was the city. He said he’d call our city councilmen in the morning to complain.

When Austin headed off to work, he decided to scope it out, and this is what he saw!

Yes, a HUGE pine tree, squished between our back fence and the parking lot of an office building had been up rooted because of the wind last night and as a result, some power lines were down, hence the city’s 4 a.m. chain saw, truck beeping job at my house. What a wake up call!

Cadence & Communication

Lately, Cadence has been throwing fits, making monkey sounds, pointing, and saying "yeah" when he wants something. He does know quite a few signs and words, so it was really starting to bother me he seemed to be digressing. So we started asking him "what do you want?" and waiting for him to respond (if you have good ideas, please post them in comments!). In this video, he's hungry, but got frustrated because he didn't want to say "cracker", so he just started licking a plate I had in the living room (I just finished some cobbler). Pretty funny!

Happy Birthday Cadence!

 Our son turned One today! We had a small party of friends and family (only those who visited when he was first born), opened presents, made a yummy cake, ate free cold stone ice cream, looked a pictures from his first year, ate his favorite meals for the day… We did everything we could think of to celebrate! We are so happy he’s healthy and a part of our family!

  All about our Cadence:

He loves to eat anything we are eating (so it’s easy to get him to try new foods). He loves going “bye-bye”. He can sign (though lately he chooses not to and just says “yeah”) finished, bye, more, milk, and understands cracker, cheese, bath, mom, & dad. His current vocal vocabulary – dad (or “addy”) & yeah. He loves to play the piano, drum, sing, and pretty much just make noise. He’s a big helper. He has started to pick up his toys, help with the dishes, and help unfold the laundry!

  He has recently become interested in lights. He always points at them and wants to turn them on and off.He is almost always happy, even when he’s sick. In fact, he doesn’t understand why he can’t play outside when he’s sick (he gets that from his dad I guess). He loves building forts, playing peek-a-boo, jumping on the bed, and chasing us around the house “I’m gonna get you”. He especially loves to be startled when we are playing chase (we jump out from behind something).  He “reads” books to himself (his favorites are “Goodnight Moon” and “From Head to Toe”) and loves the movies “Signing Time” and “Finding Nemo” (both of which he could watch for hours if I’d let him). He has also recently become interested in drawing.  He loves playing the wii, especially with his dad.

   He has his first freckle! We discovered in at his Dr. appt on his upper right chest. He’s walking now and has 2 teeth on the bottom. He is 20.4 lbs, 30 inches, and we love him to death! His official one-year-old pictures will be coming soon, so stay tuned!

 

Kitchen Redo

 With the help of the Project Group (Amy’s a part of a group of women that work on projects in each others homes once a week) and the first full week of January, we have all the kitchen cabinets off, and the 1st layer of paint scraped. We’ve laughed a bunch at the ugly colors these cabinets have been and are excited to stain them once we sand them down to wood (that is, if all the grain is the same – you know how old houses can be). So much is going on with church and work for Austin and it will take longer than we expected, but we’ve adjusted to having all of our food in view (I’m no longer trying to close cabinets that aren’t there) and there actually happen to be some benefits. It’s easier for me to decide what to cook for dinner, easier to see what we need more of, and even easier to cook (you don’t realized how much you open and close cabinets). Look forward to before and after pictures, once we have the finished product! 

Fun with Family

  I was just trying to express to Austin how many fun things you do as a kid, but you don’t think to do with a spouse, or other adults. Here is an example. Cadence and I built a fort! It’s now one of his favorite things (especially chasing in and out of it), not to mention a great winter activity. I think we’ve had so much more fun having a child now that we want to share things with. It’s made me feel like a kid again! The name of this fort in particular you may appreciate. It was our fort, then we put a piano in it and it became our PIANOFORT(e). (For those of you who aren’t laughing, that is the old name for a piano).

Austin’s Cross Country Ski Trip
