Cadence has been asking about money lately. So, mom and dad decided he needed some way to learn more about money and work hard to earn his own. He has two chores a day – taking care of the chickens and take out the trash in the bathroom (yucky diapers).
Then, he gets two pennies. He does his chores five days a week, so at the end of the week, he has 10 pennies. We mark the pennies he earns on a chart.
He decorated some jars to keep his money in and his tithing in. One penny for tithing each week (unless he happens to get some extra from Grandma or finds it in the street).
We wanted to encourage him to save for something he’d really like. Everything in our “Saturday store” is 10% the cost to him of what Mom and Dad pay for it (what a great sale, huh?). He didn’t have to save too long (thanks Grandma Smith), but he was so proud to earn a Thomas the Tank Engine. Bigger items he only gets a picture of and we buy when he has enough money.
We also had a great lesson on tithing for family night, and how tithing strengthens our faith in Jesus Christ. Austin, for our treat, took 10 limes and “gave one to the Lord” to make limeade.
Kory had a great time “helping” squeeze the limes!
