If you follow this blog at all you know we go to Bear Lake every year. It’s a tradition we absolutely love!

We always get shakes at LaBeau’s

This was Sydney’s first year with us!

Mommy made Cadence a “special bed” and he loved it (if you can’t tell, he’s sleeping on the floor)

We relaxed at the pool.. though it wasn’t a particularly hot year.

I actually took time to paint my toe nails – seems like a silly picture, but I had to have record that yet, I actually took time for myself.

For the record, this year they didn’t play golf (which is usually a tradition). The meals were:

Breakfast: The Smiths – Fruit Parfait Bar

Lunch: Hix’s – Hawaiin Haystacks

Dinner: Dopp’s – Veggie Lasagna, Salad, & Garlic Bread

Some unique things: It was Kory (my baby) & Sydney’s first time there. Matthew Michela also came with us as he was staying with our family at the time. Kory and Shay had their last big run (12 miles) before their half-marathon.

We’ve been wanting to do the Pickleville playhouse but it didn’t work out this year. In fact, things were a little crazy with scheduling which is why we didn’t spend much time up there, or do all of our usual traditions. Looking forward to next year – as always!

Austin had his first night of class tonight and I got a little excited! Seeing as we plan to home school our children, I had the thought that this may be the only real “first day of school” for our family that involved some kind of commute. Perhaps not, but I had to seize the opportunity! My friend Melanie provided the supplies (most of them) and my sister Maria (the cake expert) came over to help with the design (yes, it was made with Twinkies – which was actually a bit challenging with the frosting).

I think it turned out pretty cute! It was fun to do and I had to admit to Maria that it was probably more for me than it was for Austin. Turns out not much was actually eaten, but it was still a fun little surprise!

Cadence has fallen in love with the song “Wheels on the Bus” so when he got up the next morning and went looking for breakfast, it was like a living musical – complete with a random bus inside the fridge and singing “all through the town.”

Congrats Austin on starting your MBA at U of U!

Kory's Bathtime

My precious Kory at bath time. Both of my kids seem to be water babies (I'm not complaining because I've always been one at heart). Sadly, they've both been starved for pool time this summer. We'll catch up next summer though! Kory really loves the water, just doesn't get a chance to just be and play in it much (as the two-year-old in the background loves to splash him in the face).

 I'm pretty sure he learned this facial expression from his Aunt Maria - and I LOVE it!

Phase Two – Shed Revamp

Matthew Michela (Amy’s brother’s, brother-in-law) will been staying with us for a couple of weeks. Austin loves having company when doing projects, so he seized the opportunity today to finish the chicken run, by actually wrapping the chicken wire completely around it. The chickens are grateful to have more space, but not so happy their escape hatches are gone.

I Love to See the Temple

We had a primary (children ages 3-11) activity at the temple today. While Cadence is still a little young for these more mature activities, our family all came along because the Young Women (girls ages 12-18) were asked to talk about doing baptisms inside the temple. Since Amy is the Young Women President, we were there in a supporting role to the primary.

So handsome and these pictures make him look so grown up!

Cadence really does love the temple. We are so blessed to live so close! He always points it out when we are driving past. His favorite primary song is “I Love to See the Temple.” He knows both verses! I think I’ll have to tape it sometime. I hope he remembers these special experiences and always looks to going to the temple.
